Back to books and I’m already ringing the steam out of my collar. Being back in California has been a wonderful reemergence, but the speedy reminder of college bureaucracy and worries about how much material I’ll need to store for the test, from the large view concepts to the arbitrary details, fall short of a happy reunion. So, the other night I had an idea that could make my studying an interesting and fun use of time. In order to help remember the material for my cognitive psychology class, a course wrought with studies named after researchers, I’d like to create creative little videos on each chapter. Each could incorporate a variety of memorization tactics (mnemonic devices, visual aids, story lines, etc). One video series I thought would be fun to work in the likeness of is the In Plain English instructional shows (like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6a_KF7TYKVc).
Thus, I present to you my first video in the hopefully continued series! Feedback welcome and encouraged.
If anyone has any ideas for ways in which I could make a video memorable or fun to watch, or if you know of other great instructional/educational video series, let me know!
Oh, how I love this video. I just added it to my course’s site under supplementary materials. Here’s another example of amazing memorization aids that I came across today: http://www.periodicvideos.com
This is a video periodic table project.
For future videos, it would be great if you could incorporate rhyme and music (e.g http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_0vgqi7fU4) or better yet, musical parodies.
You could try to engage our emotions (particularly fear) to aid memory. You could use humor (also a memory aid). And you could use vulgarity (yet another useful memorization device).
I’m not sure how exactly you could pull this off, but perhaps you could also try to ancient “method of the loci” technique (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Method_of_loci). Hurray for alternative forms of studying!
Love the first video. This series should definitely continue. I might even remember what pamprd means. you should have your own tv show, and maybe one day you will. love ya! xoxo
